Courthouse Design, Red Hook CJC

Courthouse/ community center in Red Hook, Brooklyn
The Red Hook Community Justice Center is housed in a former abandoned parochial school. The building, originally built in 1908, was gut renovated to become a user-friendly community court and meeting facility for the neighborhood. The project was sponsored by the NYS Court System and the Center for Court Innovation. The Red Hook CJC is the recipient of a Rudy Bruner Award for Urban Design and an award for innovative handicapped accessibility from United Cerebral Palsy of NYC. The Red Hook CJC has become an international prototype for community courts in various types of neighborhoods.
