ALTA INDELMAN, ARCHITECT
FIRM PROFILE
The firm of Alta Indelman, Architect was established in 1995 as a practice aimed at serving a diverse client base. To date, the firm’s work comprises projects for both public and private-sector clients, including a vehicular testing facility for the City of New York Department of Sanitation, historic facade renovations, innovative projects for the New York State Court systems, as well as design work in large scale residential buildings and private homes. Ms. Indelman is a registered architect in New York State and the firm is certified as a Woman-Owned Business Enterprise (WBE) in New York City.
Ms. Indelman, founder and owner of the firm, brings to it a strong design and technical background. In addition to the Department of Sanitation Vehicular Testing and Analysis Facility and the Red Hook Community Justice Center, a courthouse/community center in Red Hook, Brooklyn, recent projects include turning two 6-apartment combinations into two custom residences, a top-to-bottom renovation of a Carroll Gardens townhouse, an addition to an historic farm house in Westchester County, a doctor’s office, a restaurant in Greenwich Village and two landmark facade restorations in SOHO. Currently, Ms. Indelman is designing a new 10-story condominium building in Greenwich Village. The Red Hook Community Justice Center received an honor award for innovative handicapped accessible design and is a silver medal recipient in the national Rudy Bruner Award for Urban Excellence program. Other work includes a number of private residences throughout the New York Metropolitan Area, both renovations and additions, and the redesign of lobbies and corridors in apartment high rise buildings. Ms. Indelman has also designed office interiors, film editing facilities, sound studios and medical offices.
Prior to starting her own practice, Ms. Indelman was an Associate at Davis, Brody & Associates (now Davis Brody Bond, LLP), an architectural firm established in 1952. Projects of particular note during her tenure there include the Midtown Community Court and two major biomedical laboratory buildings for the Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts, one a renovation and one a new building. Ms. Indelman’s experience in coordinating the architectural, structural and mechanical disciplines for these efforts informs her current work.
Alta Indelman, Architect is focused on providing excellent design while meeting the challenges of the clients’ programs. The firm’s major goal is to satisfy the needs of the people who will live or work in the places that are created for them. Projects characterized by limited financial resources, unusual and difficult programs, or existing constraints are approached without preconceived ideas and are addressed as the exciting opportunities for client and architect that they are.
